colon1k - strategy game
colon1ks is a colony strategy game in 1021 bytes for #pico8 - controlled with a mouse by lifting object (click), moving and then dropping. you have to build up a colony or more correct - you have to get as much ressources as possible.
short description
you have to build up a colony. first you have to drop your house/headquarter.
you can now move objects with the mouse. you click on something you wanna move. lift it ab by click and drop it by click somewhere else. you can also swap objects.
after drop your headquarter you have to protect this headquarter against the zombies. zombies are destroying the walls and if they destroy your headquarter, you have to leave the country.
you can now start to collect diamonds and flowers. you can also take water and irrigate the plants and get new flowers.
survive and get as much money as possible.

there are several objects/elements in the game.
the buildings
headquarter | :most important object, protect it against the 'zombies!' | |
blocks/walls | destroyed wall more destroyed wall | this are blocks, the protect you against the zombies. block 1: intact block 2:a little bit destroyed block 3: almost destroyed |
diamonds | diamonds - collect them. each gives you 30 money. you are greedy, you will not buy something with this money in your colony! | |
plants | plant how to irritage plants. water in the hand drop the water and get a new flower collect now the flower | this is a flower. you can collect it and get 20 money. as soon as you collected the flower. you have still the plant. you can now irrigate the plant and get a new flower. take water and drop it on the plant. you get a new flower. |
zombies/destroyer | so there are also zombies. or natives. and they destroy walls in their world. so try to protect your headquarter against them! |
strategy
first you have to select a good area for your house/headquarter. choose visely.
this here is not a good choice, you stand free, no 'natural' protection
better position in the next image. you have some protection and can start build up more walls around it.
but of course it is up to you to develop your own strategy and understand the gamemchanics behind. in the middle or at the edges?
it is also important to develop a strategy for when you repair, collect, farming and so on.
a gameplay loop could be:
1. place hq
2. protect hq (move walls to your hq) there are zombies
3. collect as much diamonds as possible
4. start watering plants vv
5. collect fruits
6. resources are explored new area was found. start with 1
7. > 2
features:
- strategy mechanic (build up, collect, plan vs. zombies)
- procedural levels (endless)
- different tactics possible

This is brilliant - very impressed that you managed to fit an RTS-like in 1k.
Plays well too (though you might want to make the view dimensions taller, so the game isn't so small when displayed). Glad you had a tutorial - really helped me to understand the concepts and goal.

like always if you finish it you think: you could do so much more. perhaps with a better managment of tilesystem and less sprites-managment more would be possible. but the time. it is always this if-statments that uses the most of the code-place. but hey - you are the guy who made the pool-game .-)
Quite hectic, but interesting mechanic. If zombies were a bit slower I could maybe strategize a bit more. Got 700 money.
you are right. but then the zombies should have more 'intelligence' - i had more intelligence - but then it was even more hard. i think if you try it more often you learn to live with their jumping around. in fact they are not so bad as they look like .-)
i managed to make 2500 pts .-) but i played it also a lot for testing. that was playing 2.5 areas.
but perhaps if i have the time to make a version with more bytes. more balance would be cool. there was also one version, where you could instead of money get some new assets to use. and the game was on time. of course there should be more decisons and more crafting. but for this i had to start again with the concept. next time.
The game needs a tutorial. 5 minutes in and I still can't figure out what to do and what I'm actually doing
